I am honored and blessed to be the principal at Summit Charter Collegiate Academy. I am also blessed to be the mother of a beautiful little girl who will turn two years old this April. I am married to an amazing man who is also an educator and works as a vice principal in Delano, CA. I am thankful to have such a great life personally and professionally.

I started my teaching career in Delano, CA teaching 8th grade English courses and loved every minute I spent in the classroom. I had wonderful team who taught me how to be a great teacher. I taught grades 6-12 before becoming an administrator and learned alongside my students. I have been blessed to have taught and worked in a variety of educational settings including a traditional public school, an independent charter school and now at a dependent charter school.

I truly believe every student can learn given the opportunity and have devoted my life to providing all students with educational opportunities. I also believe in the power of modeling the importance of education for my students. This desire for lifelong learning has recently taken me on a new journey in education, as I pursue a doctorate degree in education from the University of La Verne. It is very important for me to stay up to date on current research and trends in education which will allow SCCA to provide our students with the best education possible. I have had an amazing experience at SCCA over the last two years working with an amazing group of students and parents, and I am excited for the year to come!

The 2015-2016 school year, will be my 20th year as a public school educator and the third year as International Baccalaureate Coordinator here at Summit Charter Collegiate Academy. I am very excited to work with such a dedicated staff, hard-working students, supportive parents and caring community.

I was born and raised in Orange County, California. I began my educational journey by attending Concordia University of Irvine, and receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science, with a minor in Sociology and Social Work. After graduating, and taking some time away from formal schooling to gain some life experience, I decided it was time to get on with my life’s work and pursue a career in public education. I began teaching as an intern for Garden Grove Unified School District, while earning my teaching credential from Chapman University. I continued working for the Garden Grove Unified School District at Excelsior Elementary School, for the next eight years, gaining experience in grades K-4.

In 2004, my family and I decided to relocate to Central California. I joined the Burton School District and became a teacher at Jim Maples Academy. During my time at Jim Maples Academy, I taught both 5th and 6th grades, and then served as the Literacy Coordinator and Science Specialist. My next venture was teaching 4th grade at Burton Elementary School and beginning the process of earning my Masters of Education and Administrative Services Credential through the University of La Verne. The 2013/2014 school year, brought with it, the opportunity for me to move into an administrative position at Summit Charter Collegiate Academy. I am now serving in the role of International Baccalaureate Coordinator. When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with my two high school aged children, and trying to keep up with their busy schedules.

I feel honored to be the IB Coordinator at Summit Charter Collegiate Academy. I look forward to all of the new experiences we will face and to all the successes we will achieve together.

Mrs. Danielle Aguilar

My name is Mrs. Danielle Aguilar and I am happy to be entering my second year with the Burton School District as a School Counselor at Summit Charter Collegiate Academy. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State University, Bakersfield. I then went on to receive my Master’s Degree in Education and my Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certificate (BCBA) from Fresno Pacific University. I am a credentialed School Psychologist and School Counselor.

While working on my Bachelor’s Degree, and living in Bakersfield, I worked as a Behavior Intervention Aide at a school for children diagnosed with Autism for two years. Once I moved back to Porterville I began to substitute teach. I did this for about a year until I was provided the opportunity to work as a Behavior Intervention Specialist with the Tulare County Office of Education (TCOE). I worked as a School Psychology intern student with Porterville Unified School District (PUSD) and TCOE, and also as a School Counseling Practicum student with Lindsay Unified School District and PUSD. I did this for 3 years and then transitioned into the role of a Behavior Management Specialist. My role as a Behavior Management Specialist included working with children with severe behavior problems, including children diagnosed with Autism and children diagnosed with a mental health disorder. The program was in home as well as school based. My last year working with TCOE was spent as a School Psychologist.

Once the year was over, a position opened up with Burton School District, and I decided I wanted to be closer to my family and enter into the position as a School Counselor. It has been a great change for me! I am surrounded by great staff members and students.

My goal as a School Counselor is to advocate, care, and encourage all of my students. I hope to empower them with the tools needed to be successful in life, but most of all I want to help empower them to be happy in life. All students have the capability to be and do something amazing, and it is our role as educators to foster that. I am committed to learning and continual professional growth.
